CREATING A BETTER “HOME” FOR MARINE ECOSYSTEM WITH CORAL GUARDIAN.

Coral Guardian, nonprofit organization, is fighting for marine ecosystem conservation, enhancement of biodiversity and sustainable development. We are helping to develop the biodiversity of marine ecosystems in Indonesia, protect and repopulate damaged reef areas through coral reefs conservation programs.

Be the change, donate online and help us restore marine ecosystem and its “treasures”!

LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR PROJECTS OF MARINE ECOSYSTEM PROTECTION.

Our team has developed our own marine ecosystem valuation, based on a local population. We are trying to preserve coral reef, its resources and, at the same time, provide the sustainable management of this ecosystem and its development. Following our projects and programs, we are striving to create shared value for local people and organizations involved.

Our team is creating artificial reefs to rebuild damaged marine ecosystems and provide habitat for many marine species, making their re-growth faster. Artificial reefs will be a great substrate for corals to grow in the best conditions possible.

WHY PROBLEMS OF CORAL REEF IS CRUCIAL FOR MARINE ECOSYSTEM?

Coral reefs are home for more than 25% of marine species. But a true epicenter of marine biodiversity in the world is the Coral Triangle (a 6 million km ² area of sea and includes the waters of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and the Solomon Islands).

They are important for many reasons. First of all, they are providing a great coastal protection by absorbing waves’ energy and contributing to environmental protection through reduction of coastal erosion. Great coral reef can protect coasts against damages in case of storms, or hurricanes.

People are as well taking advantages of coral reefs and their marine ecosystems by fishing in the reef water (“well managed” reef can provide between 5 and 15 tons of fish, crustaceans, mollusks and other invertebrates per square kilometre and per year).

MARINE ECOSYSTEM IN THE CENTER OF INTERNATIONAL TOURISM AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCHES.

Marine ecosystem of coral reefs is an essential element of touristic attractions in tropical countries. More than 100 countries benefit from tourism related to reefs and it contributes more than 30 percent of export earnings in more than 20 countries.

Coral Guardian is proving that coral reefs are as well an important and interesting object of studies that can contribute to some dangerous treatments of diseases, such as certain cancers including leukemia, HIV, cardiovascular diseases, ulcers.
