For the purposes of this policy, the term “member” refers to a person who has made a financial contribution to the association, via our website or by any other means. The terms “newsletter subscriber” and “cyberactivist” refer to people who have subscribed to one or more of our electronic message (email) distribution lists.
We do not collect any personally identifiable information on our website other than that which is voluntarily provided to us by e-mail, telephone or post, in particular when registering as a member or cyberactivist. If you become a cyberactivist or participate in an online action, such as signing a petition, sending an e-mail, letter or fax, you may be offered the opportunity to participate in future online actions, to be informed of the outcome of the action, to receive a newsletter or other information, or to support Coral Guardian financially. You are always free to accept or refuse all or part of these proposals.
If you become a member of Coral Guardian, you may be offered the opportunity to participate in online actions, or to receive a newsletter or other additional information. In this case, you can ask not to receive any information by simply writing to or calling Coral Guardian.
When you take part in an online action, you will not always be anonymous to our target(s). Companies and governments that receive messages by e-mail or fax as part of our cyber actions may sometimes reply to your personal e-mail address or your physical address, if you have given them.
We temporarily keep the messages and contact details of people who have contacted us to request further information or advice, in case we need to contact them at a later date to provide further information. However, we do not pass this information on to anyone else, and we will not use this information for any other purpose.
Our site is hosted on various servers which are located at hosting companies whose privacy policy is identical to ours. Only those employees who need the information for a specific task (for example, our data collectors) have access to personally identifiable information. Our employees and volunteers must use password-protected computers. In addition, all Coral Guardian employees and volunteers who handle member information are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices. Our employees and volunteers are made aware of the importance we place on privacy and what they can do to ensure the protection of our members’ information, and are regularly reminded of this.
